Congratulations to my buddy, Joseph (Israel) Perez who won First Place in the A Perfect Circle Music Video contest! You go, boy!!! I am so proud of you. You deserve it.

Joseph made When the World Went Away, official selection at the San Diego Latino Film Festival. I was director of photography for those of you who don’t keep up.

As for me, I have enough money for the DVX100a camera, but I might save up an extra $1500 if it turns out the Canon XL-2 is “da bomb.” I have to choose soon because I am shooting a music video for The Bandits probably in November.

Ya, I know I haven’t been posting much. How many times have I made this apology? I’ve been working sooo much at Sea World, plus school started so it’s gonna be crazy until Sea World’s summer hours end. I’ve been managing my time decently though. I got a perfect score on my first Psychology Exam plus 5 points extra for taking it early (online class). Booyakasha.

I can’t wait until Sea World goes off-season so I have time to get back into my workout regimen. Plus, then I can finally get some quality time in with my new Powermac G5 to install programs and finally start writing my script. Once I have my camera then, with this computer, I will be UNSTOPPABLE! Is that how you spell it? I’m too lazy to check…

More about Sea World, I’m sad because the Fools with Tools (Sea Lion and Otter Show) has its last day EVER soon. They will be starting an all-new show for the next season, but until then there will be no show and some of the actors are leaving for good. It makes me very sad. Specifically, Scott McDowell (super funny actor), I wish you luck as you go off to better pastures. I am going to write a part in my next film for you, you hilarious shmuck.

Enough blabbering, I need to go check my p.o. box for the DVI-VGA adaptor I bought for my G5 so I can use my shitty ass CRT monitor with it,

I love those of you who always stick with me on these updates even when they are far and in between.

Michelle

Well, Comic Con was very fun. I hung out with the Troma and G.I. Joe guys around downtown until I got bored with the scene. I love Troma though and I just signed up to volunteer for Tromadance 2005. Hopefully, they’ll get back to me.

I screened Safety With Scissors at Tromadance 2002 and had a blast.

I’m working on ideas for my next short film, as Neon Life is on hiatus due to the fact that the person who was putting half the money can’t do so. I don’t want to go cheap on this film so I’m going to shoot something I can afford.

My G5 computer is on its way and I might get myself an XL2 if I like it. If not, the DVX100 camera. Once I have those, I will shoot an exploitation film. I’m not going to go into detail until it’s more solid of a storyline.

I’ll shoot the opening on super 16 film, most likely, and the rest on miniDV. I’m excited about the idea.

Anyway, I need to do a major cleanup on my room if I am to move out soon. Bye.

[The big news it at the end of this post.]

If you are attending Comic Con this year, I will be running the Miramax booth on July 23rd. Come visit me!

We are promoting Jet Li’s Hero (an awe-inspiring film) and Takeshi Kitano’s latest Zatoichi film. Both will soon enjoy U.S. theatrical release. However, I have yet to see the latter. Unfortunately, I will be missing the prescreening, despite it playing at my very own movie theater that I work at.

Alas, that day I have to cover someone’s shift at Sea World, as she got hit by a drunk driver and can only physically work a certain number of hours per week. Also, she can only do the Dolphin Show since it’s the only one with a sound booth accessible to her shiny red cart thingy she has to ride now. Poor dear.

Anyhoo, the ever-knowledgeable Aaron Soto tells me there are DVD imports of Zatoichi so I looked around. After all, it would be ridiculous for me to promote a film I have not seen! Maren, the boss at my theater, is going to ask her brother to let me borrow his Thai import. Yay.

Well, I gotta get around to filling out a film fest entry form. See y’all lataz. Thanks for sticking with me through these long absences. Life’s busy with a boyfriend, three jobs, dance practice, working out and Tai Chi.

I FORGOT THE MOST IMPORTANT NEWS!

Last night, I ordered my dual 2.5 GHz Apple Mac G5, baby! YEAH! I added on Applecare and .Mac. That’s all. After tax, we’re talking a motherload of $$$$. I’ve been saving up for a very very long time and hid my own money from myself for awhile to make sure I didn’t get tempted. I am so proud of myself.

Did I ever mention how cool the Mac Store is? There is one in San Diego at the Fashion Valley Mall. I plan to spend more time there once I get my computer. I’ll take classes and so on. A fellow named “John” helped me last night with my order. He was very cool (and cute). He doesn’t smell either.

The first thing I will do when my baby gets shipped to me (probably in three weeks, if I’m lucky) is start working on animation and possibly color-correction. Life is good right now.

Uh….. Jeff Hillman, who directed Reflections (I was cinematographer) told me that the film is going online at the school website. I didn’t see the project there, but I DID discover that Safety With Scissors is there…. My first short on film.

How weird. The compression ain’t so great, but all you people who have asked me to put it online for years might want to watch it.

It’s under “outstanding student work.”

I went to the Imperial Beach Film Festival awards ceremony on Friday night.

It turns out I didn’t win second place…

I won FIRST PLACE!

I got a pretty plaque that I love. When I move out in May, I plan to make a little display to put it up next to my other film trophies.

I’m glad Rudy and I decided to to go eat afterwards with some of the people there. They were all so nice. Hopefully I’ll be able to email them with thanks sometime soon. As it is I am late for something! See ya later!

Plenty of GOOD NEWS for you today, babies.

1. When The World Went Away (previously titled Virus), for which I was the cinematographer, is an official entry in the San Diego Latino Film Festival! It screens on March 11th - See schedule.

2.  Insecto, for which I was the cinematographer, is also an official entry in the San Diego Latino Film Festival! It screens on the 21st - See schedule.

3. A screen shot from Insecto is featured on the Experimental Shorts schedule page of the SDLFF (see second schedule link above).

4. We will be having a screening party to celebrate the premiere of The Killing Zoo music video, More Frightening Than Ants, my m.v. directorial debut. We are working endlessly to finish the DVD in time. Actually, Michael J. Everett, the visual effects director, is. I am just sitting here worrying nervously.

The party is at the Church Lofts in downtown San Diego on the corner of 10th and E at 7 pm this Friday, March 5th. Bring food, or you will be turned away.  Seriously.

Many thanks to Torrence for hosting the party in his spacious loft.

So that’s my good news.
