NEW VIDEO: Before the Music Dies screening and concert.
Filmed this event on March 21st for DivX, who sponsored the free screening. Just a short video showing what the event was like, and featuring a live performance by musician, Mike Barnet, who I really liked. On the B4MD Stage6 channel you can see some high-quality clips from the movie, including How to Create a Sexy Pop Star (out of a tone-deaf model) through vocal manipulation. Here’s the summary of the movie:
BEFORE THE MUSIC DIES tells the story of American music at this precarious moment. Filmmakers Andrew Shapter and Joel Rasmussen traveled the country, hoping to understand why mainstream music seems so packaged and repetitive, and whether corporations really had the power to silence musical innovation. The answers they found on this journey–ultimately, the promise that the future holds–are what makes BEFORE THE MUSIC DIES both riveting and exhilarating.
Before The Music Dies is a really great film and I suggest you check out their site and buy a DVD. They currently do not have a distribution deal. Strike that! Steve Waters’ comment made it apparent that B4MD has an indie distribution deal with B-Side Entertainment. Sweet.

Hi Michelle — This is Steve Waters from B-Side Entertainment. Thanks so much for your support of Before the Music Dies. I wanted to clarify one detail from your post — B4MD does have a distribution deal…it’s with us.
We are a specialty distributor that is focused on bypassing traditional Hollywood release and retail channels….taking our films directly to audiences and empowering them to exhibit, promote and sell DVDs.
