I’m lazy, so to get the story across, here’s an excerpt from David’s Blog

Slasgh

Michelle, Mattzog, J9 and I are all headed to an 80’s costume ball for new years. The group who puts it on is called The Brotherhood. This is the same group that hosts the Sanguin ball every year during the Comic-con.

Naturally, I’m dressing up as Slash from G&R (The first G&R, not the new one). It’s going to be a blast :) Expect a follow up (and possibly hung-over) post with pictures.

I am looking forward to going with David, Zog and J9 (Jeannine, Zog’s girlfriend). I bought pieces of my costume today. I already have a black crinoline skirt (basically a tutu but a bit longer). I am wearing it with black stretch leggings that cut off at the calf. I’m basically going for the Madonna look.

I also have this big metallic belt with a bunch of little holes in it. I will be wearing a black tank top with a netting shirt over it and black lace gloves. I wanted to do a side pony tail, but it may not work with my new haircut. The bright red highlights should go over well though. :-)

It will be a crazy day, as I am meeting my cousins at Sea World at 10am on the day of New Year’s Eve (technically today). Today the last of my Sea World tickets expires so I thought I’d take them and put the passes to good use. It will have to be a short trip though and end at 4pm. I will need time to rest, eat and prepare. We will then proceed to Mattzog’s to have a few drinkiepoos before the cab ride to the Abbey.

I plan to post pictures of the Sea World trip and the 80s New Year’s party here on your favorite blog. The best part is, I am going to attempt to present the photos in comic book form using Plasq’s Comic Life software. Tune in, dear readers!

Hey kiddies. Today, I thought I’d share a silly video I shot of our family reunion/birthday party last August. You will see where I get my weird personality from. O_o

Of interesting note, this was shot with the small Pentax Optio S6 digital still camera. It has a video camera function that uses the DivX codec. My company (DivX) gave these away at the 2005 employee Christmas party. I didn’t work there at the time, but went with David who did get one.

Since then, Pentax has moved on to the Optio S7, also DivX certified. Enjoy the movie! Remember, you need the FREE DivX web player to view this movie.

Hmm… Okay. This was all we could think of as a Christmas Day movie for my mom, my little cousin, my grandma and myself. It was actually pretty cute and amusing. It wasn’t even really bad, although I almost fell asleep at times. I like Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson was adorable. There was a little Brokeback Mountain reference and the best part was a cameo by a certain actor of Chapelle Show fame. Carla Gugino was in it too and she is hot.

[end review]

As for zee holiday, it was pleasant. I bought my mother a silver iPod Nano, David bought me a Cowon A2 30GB Video Player and I bought him a 20″ Dell Flatscreen monitor. Good Christmas.

Last Friday, Nancy H. and Kevin W. from work went Christmas Caroling with me at Scripps Mercy Hospital. Actually, it wasn’t as impromptu as it sounds. I actually sent an email out to all of DivX asking for volunteers to help cheer up patients who have to spend their holiday in the hospital. Unfortunately, a band of three is all we could manage. However with 4 extensive rehearsals, we got pretty far. We managed to have harmony or guitar accompaniment (I can only go as far as open chords) for every song.

It was a great experience. Jed, a hospital visitor who was there to see his parents, took some pictures of us. Nancy is getting me his card so I can email him tomorrow and ask for a copy. At that time, I will post more about our Christmas Caroling adventure!

Happy Belated Holidays!

Pursuit of Happyness

Okay, this is the second movie in a row I did not want to see, but went anyway because David and Marley were going. Once again, I was pleasantly surprised. Not only was The Pursuit of Happiness a touching, charming and clever movie, but now I have a newfound respect for Will Smith. I think the chemistry between him and his real-life son, Jayden (playing his son in the movie) really helped the emotions come across as sincere. The movie is really intense to me and probably alot of other people who grew up raised by single parents. I found myself rooting hard for the good guy, even though I know how this story ends (read this article about Chris Gardner, whom this story is based on). I high recomment this movie.

DivX Holiday Party 2006

Moi, David et Marley.

As you can see, we were experiencing some technical difficulties of the Zog kind. Derin was screwing around too. Thankfully, pictures were free of charge during the party, so we didn’t waste any money- only our precious time, as the dorkwads amused themselves by sticking their fat arms in front of the camera!

Watch the second 300 trailer with 1080 lines of resolution.

If your computer can’t handle the heat, you can view the 720p version (for faster loading). Double-click in the window once the video is playing to watch it full-screen.

Both videos require the FREE DivX Web Player.

Don’t forget. If you join Stage6, add me as a friend. I live by the thing, since I work at DivX. So I’ll probably accept your request within a day or two. You can upload your own high definition video files to Stage6, too.

Apocalypto: Thoughts
12 12th, 2006

Apocalypto Poster

Saw this tonight with David and Marlene. Excellent! I had not wanted to go, initially, but my curiosity won me over. A simple, yet engaging story. Amazing setting, costumes and music. Lots of themes for those who like discussing symbolism and whatnot. Great camera work. I highly suggest this movie. The change of locale, language and ethnicity was refreshing. Note: In true Gibson style, this movie does not hold back on violence and gore. You have been warned.
