Safety with Scissors: Halloween Screening in TJ

Halloween was a blast this year. I dressed up for the first time in years! I spent the night at the Cinema Inc. special Halloween edition. They played my film, “SAFETY WITH SCISSORS” at the 6 and 8pm showings. Both screenings had people in the aisles because it was a packed little room at the CECUT (cultural center of Tijuana). Hardly anyone was in costume, so I felt a little stupid. The rude teenage boys seemed to like my sexy wench outfit more than my film, but they were rowdy all night so I can’t take their opinions seriously. There was an after party, but not as big as last time I went to Cinema Inc. This time Aaron just invited the filmmakers and a few friends. That was nice.

I was interviewed by some TV show. I have to ask Aaron Soto (a personal friend and the coordinator of the event) what show it was. He’ll record it off TV when it plays this weekend (Saturday and Sunday) so coolio foolio. It was weird answering the reporter’s questions . I don’t think I was giving him the answers he wanted. He wanted to know how one photographs a horror film (since, besides directing a short, I also did cinematography for two other films playing that night). But, every time I answered him he rephrased the question. Crazy people. They were really nice, but the reporter kept calling me Raquel instead of Michelle so we had to keep cutting and starting over again. It was hilarious. He was getting me mixed up with Raquel Presa (actress and casting director for a film I DPd). At one point he called me Raquel Soto. Heh.

If I get footage of the show, I’ll see if I can digitize it and put it online. Below are some pictures. I love screening in Mexico because the audience is so receptive and they’ll give you great feedback after the show. It always is enjoyable and reminds me about how great it is to be a filmmaker. I gave out quite a few cards, met an enthusiastic actress and also a reporter from a new magazine in San Diego. Cool.

We had fun and I met a few new people.

Aaron even took me to get something to eat since I couldn’t eat the carne asada. They’re all so kind and hospitable (Carlos was especially sweet tonight, sitting in the truck bed freezing to death so there’d be room for us). I love my Mexican neighbors. [How sappy]

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my film played in Mexico last weekend too. It was Cinema Independiente something something Frontera. Dunno much about it, but supposedly the coordinator is cool and a friend of Giancarlo’s (director of Insecto, which I have DPd yet have still not seen). He asked GC if he could screen my film so I said sure. Wish I coulda been there, but I was in L.A. visiting my mom and my VFX director for Neon Life plus my upcoming music video. I need to find out the full name of the venue I missed so I can list it as a festival screening on my website. I’m so lazy.

p.s.- Did a search on my name (little hobby I have) on google. There is another Michelle Osorio in California. I noticed she likes to put her name on things. She’s on some sisterhood pledge, a fair salary hike petition. She’s also listed as a donor of $3 to the Michael Jackson Fan Club. See it here.
