Thanks for the comments, guys! We ended up shooting almost 2000 feet of film, yes! This movie is gonna rock!
Anyway, I actually can’t talk much because I have to get ready. I am going BACK to TJ tonight to prepare for yet ANOTHER MOVIE! This time on super 16. I’m DP’ing Giancarlo’s “Insecto” which I am very excited about.
To dblitzc I’m sorry my email was so brief. I didn’t realize it was you!
Real quick, a few production stills. When I get back (again) I will put more on my website. Plus I promise to reply to your comments when I get back next week, REALLY!
Dang, I just remember that before I go I also have to write some answers to this guy’s questions. He’s a friend of Raul’s and he’s doing a report on indie low budget filmmakers for his film class. Ha.
………
I’m off to shoot “Insecto” now. Take care guys and girls!

Thanks for the comments, guys! I’m really busy right now so I probably won’t be able to reply until next week.
The “Virus” shoot went wonderfully and I can’t believe how much fun I had. The only thing is we are really behind schedule and so starting tomorrow I am going to be going back and forth from Mexico to work until Monday.
I’ve established that I go into “TJ mode” when I shoot down there. That means doing anything to get the shot including taking risks and getting very very dirty. HeHe.
Israel wanted a shot of Giancarlo walking into the theater. Since it’s a post apocalyptic world there can’t be people or cars driving by. So we parked our cars in the middle of the street (no permit), opened the doors (used them a props in the shot) and yelled at people not to walk in the picture (even though some lady did anyway on the first take).
So then Israel is climbing a ladder to hurry up and get the shot and a cop rides by in a motorcycle! He starts asking questions but I think it was Jose who was holding him off while we got the shot. I was panicking because someone else was panicking from the cop so it was hard to concentrate because I was trying to yell up to Israel what measurement and f-stop (exposure) to set the camera at before he started filming. Giancarlo has to say (video nut) something like “who cares about measuring it? let’s just shoot it already” so I got very annoyed.
Anyway we got the shot and afterward I snapped at him not to question me again. I told him if I hadn’t had Israel set the camera it would have come out completely blown out (overxposed) and we would have gone through all that for nothing.
I think they all think I’m a little touchy now hehe. I don’t care though. All that matters is we all get along better now once I set everything straight.
I also have a horrible sunburn that hurts and is making my skin peel. It didn’t FEEL that hot at the junkyard, but three days there really did some damage. Ouch. I also have some bruises, but I don’t recall where any of them came from.
Funny story: At some point our crew (which was not exactly the most enthusiastic) all but disappeared and so it was just me and Isreal shooting some scenes without Giancarlo late Friday night. We were doing a “dolly shot” on some rickety contraption and after only one take the dolly busted and down goes Israel. He semi-dropped the camera but it fell on his leg and then rested on its side on the floor.
So of course, me being the gung ho DP rushed to him and gasped “is the camera okay??” and scooped it up in my hands while Isreal was lying there in pain. HAHA.
“Oh, I mean… are you okay?” I amended. His butt still hurts from that night.
So much more to tell, but no time to tell it. Let’s just say we have some awesome locations and over 65 different shots. Whooo.
Okay talk to ya later, gotta go!

Hey, yardenxanthe mentioned in a previous comment that I wasn’t counting Appetite For Love as a Vampire movie! That makes three in the past 5 months I’ve shot. HA!
My site is back up! YAY!

Aaron (director of Ashes which I DP’d) has a web log. Didn’t know that: http://www.cinemainc.blogspot.com/
Andy has one too (director of “Project Orange” that I DP’d), but I can’t find the link ![]()

Okay, so I finished shooting Andy’s project last week. It is called “Project Orange” for now. It was lots of fun and seeing as how the film was hastily thrown together I am proud things went off without much of a hitch. Goes to show I’m used to shooting 16mmm now with the old Arriflex.
Andy might not telecine until a later date, but he’s going to process through Fotokem soon.
Then this weekend I’m going to be shooting Israel’s movie, “Virus.” Can you believe this is the second horror vampire 16mm short set in a post apocalyptic world that I have shot in the past 6 months? “Virus” will also be the second movie I’ve shot where I didn’t even see a storyboard a week before shooting. In fact I didn’t see andy’s storyboards until the 2nd to last shot of the first day of photography! DOH!
“Project Orange” is about how Andy’s character buries his boss in his backyard! “Virus” is about a lone man who spends his days fighting off humans-turned vampires after the world has ended. Last semester one of the films I shot was “Ashes,” in which a virus has spread to infect a group of nuns and a slayer must defeat them…
I was telling a friend, “Why do the fellows with the most morbid films always come to me to shoot them? Do I attract them somehow?” HaHa.
No, but seriously it is nice though. Being one of the few women in film at Southwestern and probably only one of two who really are gung ho filmmakers it is very nice to be a part of such great projects. Obviously guys don’t seem to worry about grossing me out. Well, of course. My debut film involved blood spewing out of a teenager’s head from a scissors stabbing! Oh the comedy!
I am looking forward to being Director of Photography for “Virus.” It is probably the most ambitious film project I have worked on to date, what with all the locations, almost four shooting days and many set-ups and camera movements.
